You may be eligible if you or your child have sensory processing differences or a condition that means using a vehicle is the safest and most manageable way to travel. This can include:
A disabled vehicle tax exemption allows people with certain disabilities, or those who help them, to use their vehicle without paying tax.

You receive the higher or enhanced rate mobility component of one of the qualifying benefits: Disability Living Allowance (DLA), Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Child Disability Payment (CDP), Adult Disability Payment (ADP), Scottish Adult Disability Living Allowance (SADLA), Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP), or War Pensioners Mobility Supplement (WPMS). - The vehicle is used by the disabled person or someone who drives only to help them (e.g., for prescriptions or shopping).

3 Simple Steps to Apply
Step 1: Gather Documents
- Certificate of entitlement (DLA, PIP, CDP, ADP, SADLA, AFIP, WPMS)
- Vehicle documents: V5C or new keeper slip + V62
- MOT or GVT certificate (valid on start date)
- NI vehicles: valid insurance certificate
Step 2: Apply
- New vehicle: Take documents to dealership
- Used vehicle: Go to Post Office® branch
- Future renewals: Online, phone, or Post Office
Step 3: Keep It Valid
- Use vehicle for the disabled person or to help them
- Update if circumstances change
- Request replacement certificate if lost, stolen, or vehicle changes
Tip: Always include your vehicle registration number on the entitlement certificate.
