Lyke Wake Walk – Intrepid Explorers

Celebrating Our 7 Little Rainbows

Tonight, seven amazing people are setting off to take on the Lyke Wake Walk, a gruelling 40-mile trek across the moors, walking through the night and into tomorrow,  all in support of MAIN, our charity for autistic, neurodiverse, learning disabled, and complex needs individuals based in North Ormesby.

There are 7 colours in a rainbow, and fittingly, we have 7 incredible individuals making this journey. Each one brings their own strength, spirit, and colour to everything we do, together, they form something truly powerful and beautiful.

These volunteers don’t just support MAIN, they are MAIN. Their hearts and souls are woven into our mission, and their dedication shines brighter than ever.

To our 7 little rainbows: thank you, good luck, and well done.  You’re walking for more than just miles, you’re walking for inclusion, for understanding, and for every life we touch.

We’re behind you every step of the way.

Bon Voyage – Louisa

Thank You, Louisa – Wishing You All the Best in Canada!

As we say goodbye to one of our wonderful team members, we also celebrate the journey she’s about to begin.

Louisa joined MAIN as an Outreach Worker in January 2023, bringing not only her skills and dedication but also a warmth and kindness that quickly made her an invaluable part of our team.  Having travelled from her home country of Nigeria with a Bachelors and Masters already in Geology, Louisa took up further studies at Teesside University, it is fair to say knowing Louisa that her journey has been one of determination, grace, and strength.

From day one, Louisa brought a quiet confidence, professionalism, and a truly beautiful spirit, inside and out. It has been an absolute privilege to work alongside her, but more than that, to know her, as the incredible person she is.

As she now emigrates to Canada to begin her next chapter, we want Louisa to know how deeply she will be missed. Your presence has left a lasting impression on us all, and you will always have a home at MAIN.

Wishing you and your family, every success and happiness in this exciting new chapter.  Canada is lucky to have you!

With love and thanks,
All of us at MAIN

Louisa’s email to all our staff, reads –

‘I am truly overwhelmed and deeply grateful for the kind words, the warm wishes and  genuine prayers. This touched my heart in ways I can’t fully express. Your kindness and love means more than words can say, and I feel so honored to have been part of such a supportive and caring team. My prayer for all is that this organization will continue to grow in unity, excellence, and fulfillment; that each member of this Beautiful team will find joy in their work, favor in every endeavor, and success that exceeds expectations. May the bonds we’ve built continue to strengthen, and may MAIN go from heights to to greater heights’.

Thank You, Skipton Building Society

Thank You, Zetland FM and all the lovely listeners!

We want to say a very big thank you to Dave from Zetland FM for so generously giving us airtime to promote our fundraising efforts for the Quiet Room.

Your support truly means the world to us.

Play the audio interview full clip:

We’re raising funds as part of a project very close to our hearts at MAIN, a local charity that supports children, young people, and adults who are autistic, neurodiverse, on the pathway, have a learning disability and or complex needs. Some of the amazing children we work with experience behaviours that can be challenging at times, often as a result of sensory overload, anxiety, or difficulties in processing the world around them.

That’s why we are working hard to create a Quiet Room, a safe, calming, and therapeutic space where our young people can retreat when things become overwhelming. The room has been carefully designed with soft lighting, sensory tools, and comforting furnishings to help reduce anxiety and support emotional regulation. It’s not just a room, it’s a sanctuary where children can feel safe, supported, and understood.

Having a platform like Zetland FM to raise awareness of this vital project helps us connect with more people in our community who may wish to support, donate, or simply learn more about what we do. With every kind word shared and every donation made, we are one step closer to making this vision a reality.

Thank you again, Dave and everyone at Zetland FM, for helping us spread the word. Together, we are building something truly meaningful for the children who need it most.

Thank You, Henry – for Being a Star in Our Fundraising Challenge

At MAIN, we believe that every child and young person should have access to a space where they feel safe, calm, and truly understood.

That’s why we’re raising funds to create a Quiet Room, a peaceful sanctuary for those moments when the world becomes overwhelming.

But turning this vision into reality takes incredible people. That’s where Henry comes in.

Henry is more than just a fundraiser, he’s an inspiration. As a young autistic person who attends our Thursday Afterschool Club, Henry understands just how important it is to have a space to re-regulate, to breathe, and to feel secure. And now, he’s doing something extraordinary to help others find that same sense of calm.

His energy, compassion, and determination are helping us move closer to building the Quiet Room, one step, one donation, one moment at a time.

Henry, we can’t thank you enough.
Thank you for your kindness.
Thank you for using your voice to speak up for others.
Thank you for showing everyone what true community and courage look like.

With your help, we’re creating more than a room, we’re creating possibility. A space where anxiety can ease, senses can settle, and young people can find the calm they need.

To everyone reading:
Let’s rally behind Henry. Let’s support his incredible efforts and bring this Quiet Room to life. Every donation, every share, every show of support makes a real difference.

Please donate to Henry’s #GoFundMePage

Let’s make this happen, for Henry, for our children and young people, and for a future that embraces every individual with understanding and care.

With heartfelt gratitude,
The MAIN Team.

Henry

Thank you NETA

A Heartfelt Thank You to NETA for Their Generous Donation

At MAIN, we are absolutely delighted to share some wonderful news with our community. We recently received a generous donation of £1,000.00 from NETA, and we couldn’t be more grateful.

This kind contribution will be used to help improve our outdoor space and privacy—an area that plays a vital role in the wellbeing and development of the children, young people, and adults we support.

MAIN is a charity based in the heart of Middlesbrough, dedicated to supporting individuals with autism, learning disabilities, and complex needs. From the age of 5 and into adulthood, we provide a safe, understanding environment where individuals can thrive, learn, and connect with others.

Outdoor space is not just a luxury—it’s essential. It offers our young people the chance to explore, relax, and engage in sensory activities in a calm and secure setting. Thanks to NETA’s kindness, we’re one step closer to making this space even more welcoming, therapeutic, and private for everyone who uses it.

On behalf of everyone at MAIN, especially those who will directly benefit from this donation, thank you, Sean Johnston, Director and Brian Ward, Scaffold Centre Coordinator at NETA, for supporting our mission and helping us create better opportunities and brighter days for those we serve.

With heartfelt gratitude,
The MAIN Team

Mental Health Week 2025

Mental Health Awareness Week 2025 – We’re Here to Help

May 12–18, 2025

This week marks Mental Health Awareness Week 2025, and this year’s theme, ‘Community’ is one that truly resonates with us here at MAIN.

Being part of a supportive, understanding community is vital to mental health and wellbeing. Whether it’s a friendly conversation, access to shared resources, or simply knowing you’re not alone, community creates connection and connection is at the heart of recovery, resilience, and wellbeing.

At MAIN, we are proud to stand alongside individuals and families navigating life’s challenges. Our mission is to support people with neurodiverse conditions and mental health needs, and we believe in the power of community to uplift and empower. This week is a reminder that nobody should have to face their struggles in isolation.

We’re Here to Help.

Throughout this week and beyond, we are committed to raising awareness, promoting understanding, and offering our support to those who need it most. Whether you’re seeking information, resources, or someone to talk to, MAIN is here for you.

Please visit our website at www.iammain.org.uk to learn more about what we do and how we can support you or your loved ones.

Let’s keep the conversation going. Let’s build a stronger, kinder, more connected community.
